A letter to Barbara Grutter

Wed Jan 18, 2006, 7:23 AM
What's wrong?
Are you sad because you lost your chance to study hard where you want?
oh no!
you cannot go to half the schools you wanted to.
so you decide to sue.
so you can be someone who
got in free
just like all those minorities
who had a chance to do something to change your point of you
did you know, we've been fighting all along
to get somewhere where we belong
pround and free
just like your rich majority
and you still think because you're white
that you will always have the right to be
better than me

and now my face
is one in a crowd
we're taking over
starting now

my brothers and sisters, cousins and friends
we'll fight together to make amends
we'll show america what we mean
that diversity's not just a dream
we'll stand united side by side
till the old men whither up and die
a new generation is on its way
we'll live together in peace someday
we gotta start right now

and listen to each other.

we're making progress now
